Answer engine optimisation for UAE businesses: be the clear answer

Answer engine optimisation (AEO) shapes your pages around the questions buyers actually ask, so Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity and voice assistants can lift a direct, correct answer from your site. For UAE businesses that means question-led pages in English and Arabic, answers in the first 40–60 words, and structure machines can read.

What answer engine optimisation is

Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is the practice of structuring web content so that search engines and AI assistants can find a direct answer to a specific question on your page and show it to the person who asked. The places that answer appears are familiar: featured snippets at the top of Google, the People Also Ask boxes, Google AI Overviews, spoken replies from Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa, and the answers people read in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Claude.

Classic SEO asks how a page can rank for a keyword. AEO asks a narrower question: if someone in Dubai types or says “How long does a dental implant take?”, is there one paragraph on your site that answers it plainly, near the top, in words a machine can lift without rewriting? If the answer is buried in the fourth paragraph of a sales page, an engine will usually take it from someone else.

AEO sits between two neighbours. SEO in Dubai keeps the site crawlable, fast and relevant so it earns a place in results at all. Generative engine optimisation (GEO) works on how AI assistants describe and recommend your brand across the wider web. AEO is the page-level craft in the middle: question-shaped headings, answer-first paragraphs, tables, definitions and schema that tell the truth about what is on the page.

For businesses in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah there is a second layer. Many buyers ask the same question in Arabic, or switch languages mid-search. An answer that only exists in English is invisible to half of those questions. That is why our AEO work runs alongside Arabic SEO rather than after it.

How answer engines choose an answer

No engine publishes its full method, and the details change often. Across Google and the main AI assistants, the same broad signals keep showing up.

  • A clear, direct answer

Engines prefer a passage that answers the question in its first sentence, then adds context. A paragraph that opens with background or a sales line is harder to quote and easier to skip.

  • Structure that matches the question

A heading phrased as the question, followed by the answer, then a list or table where the detail is genuinely list-shaped. Clean HTML headings matter more than visual styling, because machines read the markup, not the design.

  • Entity clarity

The engine has to be sure who you are: business name, location, services and contact details stated the same way on your site, your Google Business Profile and your schema. Mixed names or old addresses create doubt.

  • Trust signals

Named authors or reviewers where it matters, licences and registrations for regulated sectors such as healthcare and real estate, real contact details, and no claims the page cannot back up. Thin or exaggerated pages tend to be passed over.

  • Freshness

Prices, fees, regulations and opening hours change. Pages that show when they were last updated, and actually are updated, are safer for an engine to quote than pages that still describe last year’s rules.

  • Access

If robots.txt blocks a crawler, that engine cannot read the page at all. Checking access for Googlebot, OpenAI, Anthropic’s Claude, Perplexity, Google-Extended, Apple and Common Crawl is part of the job, not an afterthought.

The answer-first page pattern

This is the structure we apply to service pages, guides and FAQ sections. It helps people skim and it helps engines extract.

  • Question H2s

Write headings as the questions buyers ask: “How much does teeth whitening cost in Dubai?” rather than “Our pricing”. One question per heading, in the buyer’s words, not internal jargon.

  • 40–60-word answers

Under each question, open with a self-contained paragraph of roughly 40–60 words that answers it fully. Detail, exceptions and examples follow. If the first paragraph were the only thing quoted, it should still be correct.

  • Definitions that stand alone

Where a term needs explaining, use the pattern “X is …” in one sentence. Definitions like this are what featured snippets and AI Overviews tend to lift for “what is” queries.

  • Tables for comparisons

When buyers compare options, packages or steps, a real HTML table is easier for an engine to read than a styled grid of boxes. Keep column headers short and units explicit (AED, days, sq ft).

  • Lists for steps

Processes such as “How do I renew a trade licence?” are clearer as numbered steps. Use ordered lists in the HTML so the sequence survives when the content is extracted.

  • Honest schema

FAQPage, HowTo, Service and Organization markup should describe only what is visible on the page. Schema that claims questions, reviews or steps the reader cannot see is a quality risk and is ignored at best.

Building a UAE question map in English and Arabic

A question map is a list of the real questions your buyers ask, grouped by stage and sector, with one target page for each. It replaces guesswork about “content ideas” with a plan you can check against. In the UAE, every question gets an English and an Arabic version, because buyers search in both and the phrasing is rarely a straight translation.

We build the map from sources you already have: your own website search, WhatsApp and email enquiries, sales call notes, Google Search Console queries, the People Also Ask boxes for your core terms, and the follow-up questions AI assistants suggest. The examples below are generic and illustrative, not taken from any client.

Clinics and healthcare

  • “Does insurance cover physiotherapy in Dubai?” / «هل يغطي التأمين العلاج الطبيعي في دبي؟»
  • “How long is recovery after LASIK?” / «كم تستغرق فترة التعافي بعد الليزك؟»
  • “Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist in Abu Dhabi?”

Real estate

  • “What fees do buyers pay when purchasing property in Dubai?” / «ما الرسوم التي يدفعها المشتري عند شراء عقار في دبي؟»
  • “Is Business Bay better for renting or buying?”
  • “Can foreigners buy freehold property in Sharjah?” / «هل يمكن للأجانب التملك الحر في الشارقة؟»

Retail and e-commerce

  • “Do you deliver same day in Dubai?” / «هل يتوفر التوصيل في نفس اليوم داخل دبي؟»
  • “What is the return policy for online orders in the UAE?”
  • “Is cash on delivery available in Abu Dhabi?”

Each question is then tagged with intent (learn, compare, act), the page that should answer it, and whether that page currently answers it in the first paragraph. Gaps become tasks. Regulated answers, such as medical or property fees, are written or checked by someone qualified, and dated, because a confidently wrong answer is worse than none.

How the work is checked, and what is not promised

AEO starts with a Quixo Audit. It reads only your public website and gives a six-factor score and grade (23 checks, scored 0–100, graded A–F). It includes an AI-assistant discoverability check: whether robots.txt lets ChatGPT/OpenAI, Claude, Perplexity, Google-Extended, Apple and Common Crawl read your pages, and whether your business details are published in a machine-readable way. It compares you with up to three competitors on Essential, or five on Pro and Enterprise. If something cannot be measured, it is marked “not measured” and left out of the score rather than guessed.

You receive the audit as a PDF and spreadsheet in English and Arabic. Enterprise adds a step-by-step fix guide. Findings become tasks in the Quixo portal, and once fixes are live you can run a rescan to see what changed on the site itself.

Beyond the audit, we check AEO work the way a reader would. Does each target page have the question as a heading? Is the answer in the first paragraph? Does the schema match the visible text? Search Console then shows which queries the page appears for and whether it earns a snippet or People Also Ask placement over time.

What we do not promise: no one controls a position in Google or a mention by an AI assistant. Engines change how they select answers, sometimes weekly, and they may paraphrase or combine sources. AEO makes your page the easiest correct answer to take. It cannot make any engine take it.

How an AEO engagement runs

  1. Audit the site

Run the Quixo Audit to find technical blockers, crawler access issues and missing business details before writing anything new.

  2. Build the question map

Collect real buyer questions in English and Arabic, group them by sector and intent, and assign each one to a single page so pages do not compete with each other.

  3. Rewrite priority pages answer-first

Restructure the pages that already earn traffic: question H2s, 40–60-word opening answers, tables and ordered steps where they fit. AI drafts the restructure; a person on your side approves it before it goes live.

  4. Add honest schema

Mark up Organization, Service, FAQPage or HowTo only where the content is genuinely on the page, and keep business facts identical across your site and listings.

  5. Publish Arabic equivalents

Write the Arabic answers for Arabic searchers rather than translating line by line, with matching structure and hreflang so each engine serves the right language. See Arabic SEO.

  6. Rescan and refine

Rescan after fixes, review Search Console queries, and update answers whenever prices, rules or services change. Ongoing work is scoped and quoted after the audit.

Answer engine optimisation: common questions

What is the difference between AEO and SEO?

SEO works on whether your pages rank for a keyword; AEO works on whether a specific passage on the page directly answers a question well enough to be quoted. AEO depends on SEO foundations such as crawlability and speed, then adds question headings, answer-first paragraphs, tables and honest schema. Most UAE sites need both, in that order.

Is AEO the same as GEO?

No. AEO is about the page: making one passage the clearest answer to one question, for snippets, People Also Ask, voice and chat answers. GEO is about the brand: how AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini describe and recommend you across many sources. They share foundations, and our GEO page covers the wider comparison.

How much does answer engine optimisation cost in Dubai?

It starts with a Quixo Audit: Essential $49 / AED 180, Pro $99 / AED 364, or Enterprise $179 / AED 657. The audit shows where your pages fail to answer clearly and what blocks crawlers. Ongoing AEO work, such as rewriting pages and building the question map, is scoped and quoted after the audit, based on the number of pages and languages.

Is FAQ schema still worth it?

Partly. Google now shows FAQ rich results for only a limited set of sites, so most businesses should not expect the expandable questions to appear in search. Visible question-and-answer content on the page still helps people find answers and helps AI engines read the page. Add FAQPage markup only where the questions and answers are actually shown.

How long does AEO take to show results?

Structural fixes can be made within weeks, but engines decide when to recrawl and whether to use a passage, so visible changes in snippets or AI answers usually take longer and vary by query. We track progress with rescans and Search Console data rather than promising dates. No one controls a position in Google or a mention by an AI assistant.

Which answer engines does AEO cover?

It covers the places that lift a direct answer from a web page: Google featured snippets, People Also Ask and AI Overviews, voice assistants such as Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa, and AI assistants including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Claude. Each behaves differently, but all reward clear, well-structured, accessible answers.

Do you work in Arabic?

Yes — pages, reports and dashboards in English and Arabic. For AEO that means building the Arabic question map separately, because Gulf buyers phrase questions differently from a translation of the English. Arabic answers get the same answer-first structure, headings and schema. Our Arabic SEO page explains the language side in more detail.

Do I need new pages, or can existing pages be fixed?

Usually existing pages first. Pages that already get impressions in Search Console are the quickest wins, because rewriting their headings and opening paragraphs answer-first changes how engines read them without starting from zero. New pages come later, for questions on your map that no page answers yet, with one page per question cluster.

Does AEO help with voice search in the UAE?

Yes, because voice assistants read out a single short answer, usually from a page that states it plainly near the top. Answer-first paragraphs of around 40–60 words, local details such as the emirate or district, and consistent business information all make your page easier to use as a spoken answer, in English or Arabic.

Can you promise a featured snippet or a ChatGPT mention?

No. No one controls a position in Google or a mention by an AI assistant, and any agency promising one is guessing. What we can do is remove the reasons an engine would skip your page: blocked crawlers, buried answers, unclear business details and schema that does not match the content. Then we measure what changes.
