GEO in Dubai: make your business easy for AI search to read and cite
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work of making your website and business details easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to find, understand and cite. For a Dubai business, that means open crawler access, clear facts about who you are, plain answer-first pages and consistent listings across the UAE web.
What generative engine optimization means for a Dubai business
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of preparing a website and its business information so that AI assistants can crawl it, understand it and use it as a source when they write an answer. Where classic SEO aims for a blue link on a results page, GEO aims for your business to be one of the sources an AI answer is built from.
More buyers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah now ask an assistant before they open a search page. They type a full question, such as "which clinic near Business Bay does weekend appointments?" or "who does IT support for small offices in DIFC?", and get a written answer with a few named businesses and links. If the assistant cannot reach your site, cannot tell what you do, or finds conflicting details about you, you are less likely to appear in that answer.
Each assistant generally builds its answers from different places, and the picture changes often:
- ChatGPT (with search) generally leans on the Bing index, alongside OpenAI's own search crawler and pages it fetches live.
- Microsoft Copilot generally draws on the Bing index, so Bing Webmaster Tools and Bing Places matter more than many UAE businesses expect.
- Google AI Overviews generally use Google's own search index, and for local questions they lean on Google Business Profile.
- Gemini generally draws on Google's index and Google Business Profile too, so your Google presence feeds both.
- Perplexity generally uses its own crawler plus live fetching of pages at the moment a question is asked.
- Claude generally uses web search when it is turned on, plus Anthropic's own crawlers.
You cannot optimise for one assistant and ignore the rest. The same foundations serve all of them: open access, a clear identity, honest pages that answer real questions, and the same business details everywhere.
One point needs saying early. No one controls whether an AI assistant mentions you. Not Quixo, not any agency in Dubai, not the business itself. Answers change with the question, the user, the day and the model version. GEO improves the odds that an assistant can read and trust your information. It cannot force a mention, and anyone who promises one is guessing.
SEO vs GEO vs AEO: how they differ
| SEO | GEO | AEO | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main goal | Rank pages in search results and earn clicks | Be readable and citable by AI assistants that write answers | Be the direct answer to a specific question |
| Where it shows | Google and Bing results pages | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Google AI Overviews | Featured snippets, voice answers, AI answer boxes |
| Who reads first | Search crawlers, then people | AI crawlers and retrieval systems, then people | Search and AI systems looking for a short, exact answer |
| Key work | Technical health, keywords, content, links, Google Business Profile | Crawler access, entity and Organization schema, consistent NAP, plain factual pages, third-party listings | Question-led headings, short first-sentence answers, FAQ structure |
| How success looks | Impressions, positions and clicks in Search Console | Your pages reachable and your facts consistent; citations where assistants choose to show them | Your wording used as the answer to target questions |
| Can anyone guarantee it? | No | No | No |
In practice the three overlap heavily. Strong SEO foundations are the starting point for GEO, and answer-first writing (AEO) is one of the main GEO tactics. Read more on SEO in Dubai and answer engine optimisation in the UAE.
A buyer asks, and what the AI needs to find
Example only. The clinic below is fictional, invented to show the idea. It is not a client, and no outcome is implied.
| The buyer asks an assistant | What the AI needs to find about the fictional "Example Family Clinic" |
|---|---|
| "Is there a family clinic in Dubai Silicon Oasis open on Saturdays?" | A crawlable page and a Google Business Profile that both state the area and the Saturday opening hours, in the same words. |
| "Does it take my insurance?" | A plain list of accepted insurers on the website, written as text rather than a logo image the crawler cannot read. |
| "Can I see a paediatrician there?" | A services page that names paediatrics clearly, plus doctor profiles with their specialty and qualifications. |
| "How do I book?" | A visible phone number, WhatsApp link and booking page, matching what appears in directories and on Bing Places. |
| "Is it a real, licensed clinic?" | Organization schema with the legal name, address and contact details, and consistent listings on third-party health and business directories. |
None of this is clever. The assistant needs facts it can reach, read and cross-check. Common gaps are missing facts, facts locked in images or PDFs, and facts that differ between listings.
What GEO work covers
Six areas, in roughly the order we tackle them.
Crawler access in robots.txt
Check that robots.txt, firewall rules and bot protection are not quietly blocking GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot or Google-Extended. Then decide, deliberately, which ones you allow. Many sites block AI crawlers by accident through a security plugin or CDN setting.
A person-written llms.txt (optional)
An llms.txt file is a short plain-text summary of your business and key pages for language models. It is low-value and optional: few assistants are known to rely on it. If you add one, write it by hand, keep it accurate and keep it short. It never replaces good pages.
Entity and Organization schema
Structured data that states who you are: legal name, brand name, address, phone, opening hours, services, area served and links to your official profiles. This helps assistants connect your website to the same business they see in Google Business Profile, Bing Places and directories.
Consistent NAP across directories
Name, address and phone written the same way everywhere: website footer, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and UAE directories. A clinic listed as "Al Barsha" in one place and "Barsha Heights" in another gives an assistant reason to doubt both.
Plain, answer-first pages
Pages that answer the question in the first sentence, then add detail. Real prices or price ranges where you can share them, clear service names, areas served and who the service is for. Text, not images of text. English and Arabic where your buyers use both.
Third-party listings and mentions
Assistants often cross-check you against other sites. Accurate profiles on relevant directories, industry associations, marketplaces and review platforms give them independent confirmation that you exist and do what you say.
Start with access: a robots.txt that lets AI crawlers in
If an AI crawler is blocked, nothing else on this page matters for that assistant. The first check is your robots.txt file at yourdomain.ae/robots.txt. Below is a simple example that allows the main AI crawlers. Adapt it to your own site; do not paste it over rules you already rely on.
User-agent: GPTBot
Allow: /
User-agent: OAI-SearchBot
Allow: /
User-agent: PerplexityBot
Allow: /
User-agent: ClaudeBot
Allow: /
User-agent: Google-Extended
Allow: /
Sitemap: https://www.example.ae/sitemap.xmlA few notes on what each line does, in general terms. OAI-SearchBot relates to ChatGPT search results, while GPTBot relates to OpenAI model training; you can allow one and block the other. Google-Extended controls whether Google may use your content for Gemini models; Google AI Overviews follow normal Googlebot access, so blocking Google-Extended does not remove you from Google Search. PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot are the crawlers for Perplexity and Anthropic.
robots.txt is only half the story. Bot-fight modes, web application firewalls and some hosting plans block crawlers before they read robots.txt, so we check both the file and what a crawler actually receives. Whether to allow training crawlers is your business decision; we explain the trade-off.
A 4-week starting plan
Week 1: Crawl and access
Review robots.txt, firewall and CDN bot settings, sitemap and indexing in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Confirm the main AI crawlers can reach your key pages and that those pages return real text, not a blank script shell. Fix accidental blocks first.
Week 2: Entity and schema
Write or correct Organization and LocalBusiness schema with your legal name, address, phone, hours, services and official profile links. Align the website footer, contact page and Google Business Profile so every fact matches. Decide whether a short, person-written llms.txt is worth adding.
Week 3: Answer-first content
Pick the ten to twenty questions buyers actually ask about your service in Dubai and the wider UAE. Rewrite or create pages that answer each one in the opening sentence, in plain English and Arabic. Move key facts out of images and PDFs into page text.
Week 4: Listings and recheck
Update Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the UAE directories that matter in your sector so name, address and phone match exactly. Then rescan the site, compare against week 1, and agree the next round of fixes. Ongoing work after this is scoped and quoted.
How GEO work is checked
GEO starts with a measurement you can repeat. The Quixo Audit includes an AI-assistant discoverability check. It reads your public website and reports whether robots.txt allows access for ChatGPT and OpenAI, Claude, Perplexity, Google-Extended, Apple and Common Crawl, and whether your business details are published in a machine-readable form.
That check sits inside a wider six-factor score: 23 checks, scored 0–100 and graded A to F. If something cannot be measured from the public site, it is marked "not measured" and left out of the score rather than guessed. You can compare your site with competitors (up to 3 on Essential, up to 5 on Pro and Enterprise), and you receive the report as an English and Arabic PDF plus a spreadsheet. Enterprise adds a step-by-step fix guide.
Inside the Quixo portal, findings become tasks with a rescan once each fix is done. AI drafts content changes and a person on your side approves them before anything goes live.
What the audit does not do is promise citations. No one controls a position in Google or a mention by an AI assistant. What you can control is whether assistants can reach your site, whether your facts are clear and consistent, and whether your pages answer the questions buyers ask. That is the part GEO work changes, and it is the part we measure.
GEO usually runs alongside SEO in Dubai and answer engine optimisation in the UAE. If your buyers search in Arabic, see Arabic SEO.
GEO in Dubai: common questions
What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?
Generative engine optimization is the work of making your website and business details easy for AI assistants to crawl, understand and cite. It covers crawler access, structured data about your organisation, consistent business listings and plain pages that answer real questions. The aim is for assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to have accurate, reachable information about you when they write an answer.
Is GEO different from SEO?
Yes, but they overlap. SEO aims to rank your pages in Google and Bing results and earn clicks. GEO aims to make your information usable by AI assistants that write answers, which often draw on those same search indexes. Good technical SEO is the foundation for GEO. GEO then adds crawler access decisions, entity schema, consistent listings and answer-first writing.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT or Gemini will mention my business?
No. No one controls a position in Google or a mention by an AI assistant. Answers vary by question, user, location and model version, and assistants decide for themselves which sources to show. GEO improves the conditions: assistants can reach your site, read your facts and cross-check them. Be cautious of any agency in Dubai that promises a guaranteed AI mention.
How much does generative engine optimization cost in Dubai?
The starting point is a Quixo Audit, from $49 (AED 180) for Essential, $99 (AED 364) for Pro and $179 (AED 657) for Enterprise. The audit includes the AI-assistant discoverability check and shows what needs fixing. Ongoing GEO work is scoped and quoted after the audit, based on the size of your site and how many gaps it finds.
Which AI assistants does GEO cover?
GEO work covers ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. They generally draw on different sources: ChatGPT search and Copilot lean on the Bing index, AI Overviews and Gemini on Google's index and Business Profile, Perplexity on its own crawler and live fetching, and Claude on web search and its own crawlers. The same foundations serve all of them.
Should I allow AI crawlers in my robots.txt?
For most Dubai businesses that want to be found, yes, at least for the search-related crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot. Training crawlers such as GPTBot and Google-Extended are a separate choice. Some businesses with proprietary content block training while allowing search. Also check your firewall and CDN, which can block crawlers even when robots.txt allows them.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
No, it is optional and low-value today. An llms.txt file is a short plain-text summary of your business for language models, but few assistants are known to rely on it. If you add one, write it yourself, keep it short and keep it accurate. Time is usually better spent on clear pages, schema and consistent listings first.
How long does GEO take to show results?
The access and schema fixes can be done in the first two weeks, and a rescan shows straight away whether checks now pass. Whether assistants then cite you depends on when they recrawl and how they choose sources, which no one controls. A 4-week starting plan covers access, entity and schema, answer-first content, and listings with a recheck.
Do you work in Arabic?
Yes — pages, reports and dashboards in English and Arabic. For GEO that matters, because many UAE buyers ask assistants questions in Arabic and the assistant needs Arabic pages to draw on. The Quixo Audit report comes as an English and Arabic PDF, and answer-first pages can be written in both languages for buyers across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
Where is Quixo Marketing based?
Quixo Marketing is based in Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai. We work with businesses across the UAE, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, and the wider GCC. Most GEO work is done remotely through the Quixo portal, where audit findings become tasks you can track, approve and rescan. You can start with an audit or talk to us on WhatsApp.
